As I take time to reflect on 2024 and plan for the year ahead, I can’t help but think about the incredible conversations we had in the Stay Gold Collective. This past year was filled with insightful discussions, inspiring stories, and valuable lessons from industry leaders. I wanted to share a few standout takeaways from some of the amazing guests who joined us.
The Power of Perfection with Marla Aaron
Marla Aaron is someone I’ve known for a long time and continue to be deeply inspired by. She shared a powerful piece of advice that resonated with so many of us:
“Don’t compromise on any piece. Don’t accept it. That’s very hard. Even if you’ve promised delivery, and it’s not perfect, make sure it’s perfect. Or don’t let it leave without being perfect.”
This reminder to hold our work to the highest standards, even under pressure, is something every jewelry designer can take to heart.
Know Your Numbers with Vivianna Langhoff
Another standout conversation was with Vivianna Langhoff, designer and owner of Adornment + Theory. Stay Gold members loved this episode, and one of her key takeaways was:
"If you don’t know your numbers, you don’t know your business. You’re not going to be able to make the proper calls if you don’t know what’s going on financially.”
This is such a crucial point. Understanding your financials gives you control over your business and allows you to make informed, strategic decisions.
Standing Out with Hannah Blount
Hannah Blount also joined us for an inspiring conversation, and her perspective on branding and marketing was a game-changer:
“I think having a very distinctive voice and being able to spread it. It’s more about marketing than business. It’s about finding people who will also love this piece. Marketing your work and creating something that stands out are the two most important things in running a business.”
This reinforces something I always tell designers—your work needs to be unique, but it also needs to be seen. Finding your audience and making meaningful connections is just as important as the pieces you create.
