Why Community Matters More Than Ever

Here I am talking about community again - It’s often on my mind, and it’s a priority for me because everything feels so much more challenging without it. A rising tide really does lift all boats.
I was recently in NYC, where I was immersed in the jewelry community, and over the past year, I’ve been able to create it locally too. I’ve connected with the Asheville craft community through Craft Your Commerce, and I’ve also built a group of moms who support each other.
It’s something I want to keep leaning into, and I encourage you to do the same. Community will open up new opportunities for you and give you a stronger foundation for your business, I promise.
A couple of weeks ago, I interviewed Laura Wood, a talented designer who has built a strong presence for herself locally, for the Stay Gold Collective. We talked about this very idea. She encouraged designers to approach their work and branding with an authentic voice. Her main point? Whether it’s a photo shoot or a local collaboration, stay true to your creative vision.
And as another way to continue bringing designers together, the Stay Gold Collective has started hosting a weekly co-working hour. It’s a space to keep each other accountable, ask questions, and not feel so alone in our to-dos.
What communities have you been leaning into lately?
