Adriana Guelfi Herrera Double FlowerEarrings
"The flower earrings are part of a whole garden of varied flower pieces that intertwine and complement themselves, as we women do when bonded together. Here is my inspirational poem for these earrings:
Born of a Mexican legend, Xtabay, the prostitute whose
tomb gave birth to the most beautiful and humble flower,
with an exquisite perfume that besot the wayfarers.
And Utz Colel, the pious but cold-hearted lady who after
dying turned into the flower of a bristly cactus, full of
thorns and casting an awfully unpleasant smell.
Born of the vegetation of Valle Bravo,
of Barragan’s colours,
of Frida’s sufferings,
of the magic hands of the Mexican embroiderers...
Those are my flowers!
Good flowers but bad ones,
prickly flowers of tender calyx,
big flowers, small flowers,
made of hard metal or soft cloth.
Flowers, flowers, flowers!"
