My pile of books to reach is all memoirs and 'An Untamed State' by Roxanne Gay. Honestly, I am a bit burnt out on memoirs. There are many that I read and connect deeply with, but the latest that I just finished, by Carrie Brownstein is one of them.
I am fascinated by girls in bands, the Riot Grrrl movement and feminism in general, so to get an inside look at it from an icons perspective feels very special. Carrie Brownstein, part of the influential trio Sleater-Kinney, always came across to me as an incredibly strong lady with no inhibitions. Turns out she struggled with insecurities and anxieties just like me, but her drive is what got her through.
'Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl' is eye-opening, empowering and emotionally raw. I highly recommend this memoir.
