When I met Xiao Wang I was passing her in the hall at Couture and called her name. It felt like an instant connection - Xiao is so friendly and so passionate about jewelry. She took me over to her display to try on some rings - the lighting was awful, but her designs are so pretty! She uses an amazing selection of natural colored diamonds to create some totally unique jewelry.
Also, have to mention the dress she was wearing - it was a very cute dress with a scene of alpacas wearing scarves on the skirt.
Xiao is collector first - she has a growing collection of antique jewelry and gemstones. A couple of years ago she made one ring and loved it so much that she took some jewelry making classes.
Process: She does it all! Lays out the stones, sketches the piece and then continues to lay out the stones until she is totally satisfied with the design.
The Georgian inspired designs are my very favorite. I am also in love with her antique sacred heart inspired rings.
Inspiration: Xiao is inspired by all sorts of things - first off, antique jewelry. Also, manga (Japanese animation), art and movies.
Her favorite artists / designers: Georgia O'keeffe, Nara Yoshitomo, Victoire de Castellane.
